The SANLAND 5 MHz–6 GHz RF over Fiber module pair provides transparent transmission of broadband RF signals over SM28 single-mode fiber. The transmitter converts the incoming RF signal into an optical signal using a high-linearity DFB laser, while the receiver converts the optical signal back into RF through a high-linearity photodiode and low-noise amplifier. The original RF modulation format is preserved throughout the link.

With compact dimensions, 5 V operation, 50 Ω SMA interfaces and 1310 nm or 1550 nm wavelength options, the modules are designed for integration into communication, broadcast, antenna distribution and test systems. WDM configurations are also available for bidirectional RF transmission over a single fiber.

  • Can the RF over Fiber link transmit digitally modulated RF signals?

The module transparently transports RF waveforms and is suitable for both analog signals and digitally modulated RF carriers within the specified frequency and input-power range.

  • Is one module enough to form an RF over Fiber link?

No. A complete unidirectional link requires one transmitter and one receiver operating at the same optical wavelength.

  • Can bidirectional RF signals share one fiber?

Yes. Two matched transmitter/receiver pairs can be combined with 1310/1550 nm WDM components for bidirectional transmission over a single fiber.

  • What type of fiber is required?

The standard configuration uses SM28 single-mode fiber with FC/APC optical connections.

  • What is the maximum transmission distance?

The supported distance depends on transmitter optical power, fiber loss, connector loss, WDM or WDM insertion loss and the required RF performance. Customers should provide the fiber distance and link configuration for a link-budget evaluation.
